Rech (Publisher)

The publishing house Rech was founded in St. Petersburg at the end of December 1999. It was started by graduates of the psychology faculty of St. Petersburg State University — a very strong academic school. The impetus for founding the publishing house was an acute shortage of good psychology books on the domestic book market.
In 2008 the publishing house received the highest award of the Russian psychological community — the “Golden Psyche.” Around that time, we began to seriously consider publishing books for children.

We began — and continue! — to publish collections of fairy tales compiled by psychologists: about tears, about tantrums, about wishes (good and truly terrifying ones), about tattling and greed, bedtime tales… psychological tales for every occasion, which parents have come to fully appreciate.

The next, quite logical, step was reissuing children's books. We believe it's very important to bring back to a new generation of readers the books that make up the golden fund of children's literature — and we consider it essential that these books return at a high publishing and print quality.

We also don't forget contemporary children's authors and illustrators. We publish books by both established masters and young or debut authors. For example, Narine Abgaryan's book “Semyon Andreich: A Chronicle in Scribbles” (illustrated by Viktoria Kirdiy), published by Rech, became the first winner of the new literary prize “Baby-NOS” for best children's book of the decade. Books by Elena Rakitina (“The Adventures of the New Year Toys,” “The Land of the New Year Toys,” “Seryozhik”) are much loved by young readers. Elena is a laureate of the magazine “Kostyor,” winner of the Krapivin International Literary Prize, and winner of the All-Russian Literary and Art Competition “New Names.”
