NLO – New Literary Observer (Publisher)

“New Literary Observer” (NLO) is a leading Russian humanities publishing house, founded by the philologist and cultural historian Irina Prokhorova in 1992.

The intellectual core of NLO's work is made up of three academic journals: “New Literary Observer” (which gave the whole publishing house its name), focused on developing new directions in the humanities; “Neprikosnovenny Zapas,” devoted to analyzing current trends in the social sciences; and “Fashion Theory,” the first periodical in Russia to present fashion as a cultural phenomenon.

The new ideas and approaches that take shape in these journals guide NLO's publishing strategy. Every year the publishing house releases more than 100 books spanning philosophy, history, cultural studies, anthropology, philology, and art history, as well as contemporary prose and poetry, memoirs, correspondence, and intellectual essays.
